Favorite Songs

Choosing your favorite songs can be quite complicated when you've heard so many songs in your life -_-' but I'm gonna try and list a few...

1. It's My Life - Bon Jovi
It's a classic. It's upbeat, and I never grow tired of it.

2. You Give Love a Bad Name - Bon Jovi
Possibly my favorite hard rock song.

3. With or Without You - U2
Heard it on Friends for the first time and ended up reminding me a lot of when I first started going out with my boyfriend...

4. I Don't Want To Miss a Thing - Aerosmith
My favorite soft rock song. Also, best love song ever imo; gets me every time.

5. Fell In Love With a Girl - The White Stripes
My favorite garage rock song.

6. Flathead - The Fratellis
Favorite indie rock song.

7. Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls

Quote of the Day

«Si te extasías ante su belleza, eso sólo no es amor: es admiración. Si sientes palpitar tu corazón en su presencia, eso sólo no es amor: es sensibilidad. Si ansías una caricia, un beso, un abrazo, poseer de alguna manera su cuerpo, eso sólo no es amor: es sensualidad. Pero si lo que deseas es su bien, aún a costa de tu sacrificio, enhorabuena: has encontrado el verdadero amor».

TIL: You Can't Have Too Much Of A Good Thing

For better or for worse.

TIL: Partial Progress Makes You Feel Good

[data structures lab instructions] "[...] The particular case at hand is perhaps simple and you may start by implementing the whole class and test afterwards. However, you should learn to work on stages and to be able to perform testing incrementally as each state is worked out. In this way, you will be able to experiment partial progress that usually makes one feel good about what has been done."

Shoot he's absolutely right. Thing is I already implemented the whole class, so if anything, it'll make me feel bad about myself... x_x If only I'd read the whole thing first...

If you're reading this... please don't make the same mistake I did. Cheers.

TIL: Exercising rocks

Today I learned that if you're feeling down, exercising to the beat of your favorite songs really gets your mood up. Be sure to drink lots of water afterwards though.

Desecration

Don't claim she makes you happy

While you're tearing her to dust,

Don’t lie and say you love her

When you're driven by your lust,

Don't play with her emotions

And then put her on the shelf,

And don't force tears to your eyes

While you gloat within yourself.

Everything

You're my dreams,
you're my fears;
you're my joy,
you're my tears;
you're my far,
you're my near...

You're everything I hold dear.

Quote of the day (December 22, 2010)

"Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk."

Read this in the public bathroom at college this morning and I thought it'd be an interesting quote to analyze.

Think about the people in your life and what they mean to you; as hard as it may be for us to admit it, we love some people more than others... and not always proportionally to how much they love us in return. I think this might be one of the risks of "great love". I don't think the quote focuses on "great love" per se, but rather a feeling of affection and appreciation that may be greater than that which is felt for us. This would make sense as, for instance, we, at some point in our lives, have felt something really deep for someone who did not reciprocate our feelings. Depending on your personality, the grade of affection, and own experiences, this is a situation that may have a particularly negative impact on your life: emotionally, and all that entails. Moreover, when you love someone so much, you would do anything (even the stupidest things) for them, possibly risking your wallet, your reputation, your mental sanity or maybe even your life. But that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

As for great achievements,

On Life and Freedom

"Your freedom ends where it puts your life at a higher risk that usual."

-SCGL

I was just thinking about this the other day...So, we've all heard "your freedom ends where my nose begins", which pretty much speaks for itself. However, there's also the possibility that your 'freedom' will conflict with a particular aspect of your life. For instance, some people think smoking is cool but it's not! Once I read smoking is like paying someone to kill you: they get rich, you die. They may tell you "Im gonna die anyways," but c'mon, let's face it, there are cooler ways to die, alright. One does have the right to smoke; and one may do so as long as your health is not affected! This, I believe, also holds true for other kinds of addictions or bad habits, like drinking, drugs, promiscuity, studying (you're probably wondering, but yes, you can study so much you might die... but I didn't say that ._.), and the list can go on forever, but most of these one should just plain avoid, as they indicate a lack of self-control and thus the absence of freedom. Yeah well, maybe all except studying.

First I thought about making the quote simply "Your freedom ends where it puts your life at risk," but the truth is, our lives are always at risk. When you least expect it, bam; car accident. Or bam, heart attack. Or bam, plane crash. There are even those who have jobs that put their lives in danger, yet only to prevent more lives from being lost. There are so many things that could go wrong yet they haven't. It's when we lose a loved one, or see his health worsened, that we suddenly realize how lucky we are to be where we are. Not just the fact that we're relatively healthy, but the simple fact that our hearts are still beating.

Fragments

Not the brightest star in the sky

Captivates me quite like you do

You're a mystery in my eyes;

you're the far side of the moon.

Sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter,

still, you charge my heart and soul.

5-HT neurotransmitter,

off and on, my joy and woe.

Quote of the day
